The Emergency Events Database EM-DAT was established in 1988 as a joint initiative of the Centre for Research in the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
EM-DAT contains data on the occurrence and impact of more than 26,000 mass disasters worldwide, from 1900 to the present day. The database comes from a variety of sources, including UN agencies, non-governmental organisations, reinsurers, research institutes and news agencies.
