Greenhouse gases (GHG) are gases that absorb part of the sun’s rays and redistribute them in the form of radiation in the atmosphere, warming the planet in a phenomenon called the greenhouse effect.
The main greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrogen oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) and nitrogen trifluoride (NF3).
