Caused by global warming, climate change refers to variations in long-term weather patterns on Earth, such as temperature, sea level and precipitation.
The main cause of climate change is the burning of fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas, which emit greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Other human activities, such as agriculture and deforestation, also contribute to its proliferation. The problem is that these gases trap heat in the atmosphere: this is the so-called greenhouse effect.
