Editorial staff
Five organisations from Italy, Spain and Portugal have pooled their experience in the field of journalism and education to create XQeujoy. The project is supported by the European Union and aims to bring good journalism to young Europeans. Quality information and media education are more necessary than ever in times of polarisation, hate speech, fakenews and overexposure on social media.
The initiative aims to provide young people with the keys and the why behind the news. To this end, XQeujoy will create journalistic and educational tools to understand current affairs and transmit democratic values, citizenship, solidarity and involvement in the defence of human rights, through a careful and responsible interpretation of the news.
The link between journalism and education is the essence of the XQEujoy project. That is why it brings together entities with a long history in both fields. Such as Fundación Periodismo Plural (https://www.fundacioperiodismeplural.cat/), Editorial Octaedro (https://octaedro.com/), Dataninja (http://www.dataninja.it/) Idea dinámica http://www.ideadinamica.com/en/ and Aspea (https://www.aspea.org/index.php/pt/).
The project has a previous experience with the XQ Magazine, which was created in 2017 in Barcelona by the Fundación Periodismo Plural. Six years later, it is part of the XQEujoy project. Thus, the inclusive journalism of Revista XQ, now under the name XQthenews.com, reaches a European dimension, with versions in English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.
The XQthenews.com portal is designed for children, adolescents and young people, but also for all those who, for whatever reason, need information that is more accessible and easier to understand. Its vocation is to contribute to lifelong learning. To the need for lifelong learning. This spirit encompasses all the actions envisaged in the XQEujoy project.
In addition to the journalistic portal, XQEujoy includes a training and internship programme for future journalists, with the aim of providing them with the necessary skills to establish an information link with their generation.
XQEujoy will manage this link through an Editorial Board made up of young people from Italy, Spain and Portugal, the three countries that form the initial core of the project. The first aim is to bridge their historical deficit in journalism designed for, and aimed at, young people. But the aim is to reach as many young Europeans as possible. Hence the English edition of XQthenews.com.
Also along these lines, XQEujoy will create a programme of collaboration with educational centres and online courses aimed at both teachers and students. The programme will include everything from basic notions of journalism (its history, genres, references, social function…) to training in ethics and critical thinking. The courses will be backed by academic credits awarded by the universities participating in the project.
XQEujoy is born in the context of the so-called ‘e-learning’, which allows an enormous diversity of educational and learning practices based on networked technologies. Always with the aim of being fully inclusive. For this reason, the news on XQthenews.com has a toolbar so that the user can choose the level at which he/she wants to read the article – A (advanced) and B (basic) -. At the end of each piece of content there is a series of multiple-choice questions to assess comprehension. And complementary content for teachers to use in their classes. In short, the sum of good journalism and pedagogical vocation.
