The Conference of the Parties (COP) was held this year in Dubai, an oil-producing country, but it was this year’s COP that included in the new text the desire to “leave fossil fuels behind”.
The COP28 conference, attended by representatives of 197 countries plus the European Union as parties to the UN Framework Convention, ended on 12 December 2023.
For the first time, OPEC and the oil industry in general will have their own space at the COP28 climate conference.
