In recent years, the European Union has increased its efforts to promote gender equality. It recognises that equality between men and women is a fundamental issue of social justice<\/a> and a vital factor in the economic growth and competitiveness of the continent. According to the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE)<\/a>, the gender pay gap costs the EU €370 billion a year. However, if initiatives to increase women’s participation in the labour market and decision-making processes were implemented immediately, GDP could increase by €1.2 trillion by 2050.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
